A Mixed Bag For Push Notifications
Some of us received a pollen count push notification the other day. Others received a reminder to change our filter via push notification. For some, this was surprising, interesting, and helpful; for others, it was a no thank you.
The bottom line is that we want control of whether we receive push notifications or not. Assuming that will be the case with the Filtrete app, most of us believe push notifications should be reserved only for truly important, timely info, such as air quality reminders (high pollen count, bad air day, etc.) and filter replacement reminders. Anything else would be considered irrelevant or annoying. And it all goes back to having the choice to receive them.
How often is the right amount for notifications? We vary on that, too. Most often, we’d say weekly at most; others would say only when it’s time to replace our filters. On that note, a 25% initial reminder feels right, followed by a 10% final reminder. That's something we can mostly agree on. It gives us enough time to become aware that it’s nearing time to replace, forget about it, and then be reminded when it’s really time to take action.
Hope this helps, and thanks for the surprise!
