Hi.

Welcome to the Active Air research blog by Bovitz, Inc. We're documenting our adventures in helping build a new, game-changing filter system. Hope you enjoy!

Data Fluctuations Cause Concern

Data Fluctuations Cause Concern

The problem with not being adequately educated on what the Speck data means, what drives this data, or what to do about it is that skepticism can seep in. Fluctuating data without clear reason can lead to doubt, even among staunch supporters of clean air quality.

Chris is among them, and here’s what he says:

The numbers are so ridiculously varied I honestly cannot come up with one reason why I should care what they say...I feel it’s a ploy to get me to buy more air filters.

This certainly magnifies the need for education. In this case, the reasons why Speck data fluctuates so much.

But beyond this, it also calls for on-going reminders and reinforcement for the need to monitor air quality. This is such a new thing for us that any hiccup can make us question its validity. It’s almost like we need a cheerleader rooting for us, building us up, in addition to a “coach” who will teach us how to get the best air quality possible. We lack confidence because we aren’t clued in, but we can also lack confidence because our positive energy over such a new thing can wane over time.

Offering this knowledge and encouragement can take many forms. From extended trend data that indicates our efforts are creating improved air quality, to others’ inspiring stories, to simple reminders of why we’re doing this, all help create a new ecosystem of health monitoring that keeps us passionate.

We need more than an FAQ section, but at the same time we don’t want to be overwhelmed or inundated with info. It’s a fine a balance, but right now, honestly, we’re in the dark. And when you’re in the dark, it’s easy to start to feel like Chris does.
