Digitizing AQ Has The Power To Change Behavior
First things first. We’re checking the Filtrete app and Speck in particular (because it’s staring us right in the face), all the time. It’s becoming not just habitual, but second nature. Damon sums it pretty well on our behalf:
“I have Speck centered (in my living room), so I can see it as soon as I walk in the door.”
With this new habit, the importance we’re placing on air quality has continued to grow:
- I always just assumed our air was fine. These devices are showing me I need to pay more attention to what is getting trapped in our air at home.
- I find that when my head is feeling congested, I look at the (Speck) monitor. The reading tends to be low (poor), which seems to coincide with the allergens in the air.
- As soon as the filter level went to zero percent, my girlfriend started to get sick two days later…I need to find out where I can get more of these filters.
It’s also creating a whole slew of new actions for us. Here are but a few examples:
- I’m checking for dust more often. As a matter of fact, I’m going to buy an air purifier today or Saturday.
- I am trying to clean and vacuum more often to keep the pet dander to a minimum.
- I will start changing my air filter every two months instead of stretching it to three.
- I am more alert and cautious on making the house clean. This is a good wakeup call for me of when it’s time to clean. It’s helping me be more watchful to keep my family healthy and safe inside our home.
- I’m airing out the house more often by opening windows in strategic areas to get a new circulation of clean air.
All this is happening after just a few weeks with the Filtrete app and Speck. We wonder what’s next!?
